An Unexpected Ally

Today, Erik and I had our medical exams to demonstrate that we are healthy and physically capable of parenting. ( Good thing we passed! :) ) While there, we found a truly unexpected ally - our new family doctor!

In the past, our family practitioner was not at all my favorite doctor. He was a good doctor, but condescending at times and terrible "bedside manner". He also made some very negative comments about adoption when I was in last year getting ready to travel with my friend to China to bring home her daughter. So, I was not too excited about approaching him with our family's adoption plans.

However, about a week before we'd made the adoption decision, we recieved notice that our previous doctor was leaving the practice and our care would be handled by the remaining doctor. We'd never met this doctor and I wondered what he'd be like - so, today was the day.

Well, he couldn't have been more warm, engaging and enjoyable and on top of that - he is a 3-time international adoptive parent (Columbia and Guatamala)! Isn't that amazing?! Isn't the Lord so good that way?!
